Warm Weather Shipping
Our traditional, dense Black Cake is hearty and generally travels very well. However, during periods of extreme heat, we reserve the right to temporarily hold shipments until cooler weather prevails to ensure the highest quality upon arrival.
Storage & Aging (The Art of Keeping Black Cake)
Unlike standard desserts that spoil quickly, traditional rum-soaked Black Cake is designed to age gracefully. The high quantity of premium spirits acts as a natural preservative, allowing flavors to deepen and meld over time.
Short-Term Storage (Enjoying within 1–2 months):
There is no need to refrigerate your cake if you plan to enjoy it over the holidays.
- Keep the cake tightly wrapped in its original plastic or placed in an airtight container.
- Store it at a cool, consistent room temperature, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
Long-Term Aging & The Ritual of "Feeding":
If you wish to keep your cake for several months (as many Caribbean families do):
- Tradition dictates occasionally "feeding" the cake. Brush or drizzle a small amount of good-quality dark rum over the cake every few weeks to maintain its signature moisture and preserve it longer.
- Ensure it is re-wrapped very tightly after feeding.
Serving:
Whether stored on the counter or refrigerated for long-term keeping, always bring your Black Cake to room temperature before slicing and serving. This ensures the perfect texture and releases the full aromatic bouquet of the spices and rum.
